Church, the societies within Europe have essentially been dominated by religious thought and exploration. The following paper examines three of the most powerful religions, or religious movements, in the history
of Europe. The paper first examines the history of the Roman Catholic Church, then the history of the Old Catholic Church, and lastly the history of the Church of England.
Following these examinations the paper delves into a comparison and contrast of the three religions. The paper primarily focuses on these churches in Europe, though their influence or impact in
the United States is also examined. The Roman Catholic Church The history of the Roman Catholic Church is often traced back to around the 90 AD. It was
at this time that there seems to have been conflict within the church of Corinth and the leader of the church of Rome, Clement, tried to restore order by perhaps
beginning the apostate church. "Because of this, Christians began to treat the church of Rome with great respect towards the end of the second century" (The History of the Roman
Catholic Church, 2004). The church seemed to have possessed a great deal of power and it appears to be that in approximately 175 AD one individual, Irenaeus, claimed that all
citizens had to agree with the church (The History of the Roman Catholic Church, 2004). This argument was claimed to be founded on the fact that the church of
