in educating teens about STDs and HPV; it suggests that such education can be accomplished using some of Albert Banduras theories on learning. Discussion Bandura: Psychologist Albert Bandura is probably
most famous for his "Bobo doll" experiments, in which he was able to show that children will copy ("model") behavior even if they have only seen it once. In brief,
the experiment was this: Bandura had children watch a video in which a model pummeled a "Bobo doll" (one of those inflatable plastic dolls weighted on the bottom so it
pops back up when knocked down) (Isom, 1998). After watching the video, they were led to a room where there were "beautiful dolls" but told they couldnt touch them; then
they were led to a room where there was a Bobo doll (Isom, 1998). The children attacked the doll in the same manner they had seen on the video (Isom,
1998). This led Bandura to his theory of social learning; today it is usually called "social cognitive theory" and it can be used to approach adolescents with regard to their
behavior. From his social cognitive theory Bandura further developed a theory of "self-efficacy," which proposes that "peoples belief in their capabilities to carry out specific behaviors influences the behaviors
in which they engage, their persistence in the face of obstacles, and the effort they put forth in carrying out these behaviors" (Cothran and White, 2002, p. 313). The behaviors
in question are those of teenagers, who comprise a very vulnerable population segment. They are at a point in their development where things are unsettled; they are experimenting sexually, still
developing psychologically and they are extraordinarily susceptible to peer influence. They are often pressured into having sex when they would prefer to wait, because "everyones doing it." The result
