history period. This is because with so many innovations to make life easier, and more effective, the lives of individuals have been infinitely expanded. For graphic design in particular, just
like other items that are commercially available for replication, graphic designs are now able to be replicated at a much faster rate. Machines to some extent have allowed production to
be much quicker. During the industrial revolution, faster printing presses, as well as new methods in photography, came about. So many things enter the picture when it comes to graphic
design and print production and many innovations occurred during the period. It is print production for the most part that allows people to see an artists work--whether it it for
the purpose of decoration or advertising--on a grand scale. This trend came about during the time of the industrial revolution. Today, when one sees a magazine ad, for example, it
is from a four color process and while it cannot exactly replicate an original painting or photograph, it seems to come close. Yet, the printing process as well as advances
in photography have rendered a situation where art can be widely distributed. Again, if it were not for the inventions and ideas to come from the time period, the many
things we take for granted in graphic arts would not be available. Of course, there is another side ot the coin. Many criticize art for being contrived and commercial. Too
many things are replicated and people have lost the sense that an original is something to be cherished. Outside of the art realm is also criticism of the industrial age.
