years. In fact, generations of women have been largely oppressed in these countries and it has only been recently that any significant strides have been made.
The role of both Chinese and Indian women has been very centered upon traditional values and roles for generations. Women have taken their place
within the family and within society just as their mothers had, and this tradition was passed on, almost unchanged, from one generation to the next.
However, as the world becomes a more global society and as politics in these countries have changed, so too has the role of women.
While we may still judge the role of the Chinese woman or the Indian woman as one of inequality, it is important to see their role in light of their
past within those societies. Therefore, on that basis, there has indeed been much change and much progress for these women.
Understanding the role of both Chinese and Indian women allows us to not only better understand our own culture but also provides perspective in terms of where these women
have come from and where they are going. There is bound to be more change in the future for these women as barriers continue to be destroyed. The Role
