author portrays Sonia as a woman whose mind is noble and pure but whose body is that of a whore, a "typical" reflection of women through the ages.
Sonia is a perfect example of a woman whose life has been dramatically impacted by her family. She becomes a prostitute
basically because of her father, who is a drunk and doesnt support his family financially or emotionally. Sonia realizes that life as a whore will lead to nothing but
negativity, and she acknowledges that her future will consist of either suicide, madness or corruption. And yet, there is clear evidence in this story which shows that a certain
part of Sonia remains untouched by the degradation and filth of her profession. There is indeed evidence of her unique and special character even in the midst of her
work as a prostitute. In this way, we see the duality of Sonias character emerge. In this respect, Dostoevsky
has crafted a brilliant character, encompassing both good and evil, right and wrong, perfection and sinfulness. Because of these traits, Raskolnikov is able to relate to her and confide
in her, and this unites them in a very extraordinary way. Again, we see the duality of Sonia emerge, and this becomes evident in her ability to help Raskolnikov.
