in the end, their unethical practices severely impacted the lives of virtually everyone who worked for the company and landed them in legal trouble. A truly effective leader generates success
in an organization by fulfilling the ethical obligations of his or her station of power and acting as an example of ethical behavior for others in the organization; a good
example of this is Microsoft founder Bill Gates. This paragraph helps the student discuss the five principles. Because leadership is so important to so many different arenas of life, even
outside of business, much has been written and analyzed regarding what qualities constitute effective ethical leadership. One common view of the matter is that leaders have an obligation to behave
ethically because of the inherent power they hold in their relationships with other individuals in an organization, and in the community as a whole (Northouse, 2007; Gitman & McDaniel, 2008).
The particular ethical qualities a leader should possess are the subject of debate, but many concur that respect, service, justice, honesty, and community are all vitally important principles (Northouse, 2007).
