what is the role of the EPA as it respects environmental policy, and third, what is the impact of EPA on businesses? First, the U.S. has environmental policy that is
found in a number of agencies. The following information is found at EPAs web site: "The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) requires federal agencies to integrate environmental values into their
decision making processes by considering the environmental impacts of their proposed actions and reasonable alternatives to those actions" ("The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)," 2009). In part, the Environmental Protection
Agency takes on the role of promoting environmental awareness (Kamieniecki, OBrien & Clarke, 1986). EPA is considered to be an all-encompassing environmental organization (Kamieniecki, OBrien & Clarke, 1986). Its scope
is broad. Hence, the EPA must see the environment as one system as opposed to simply focusing on clearing pollution (Kamieniecki, OBrien & Clarke, 1986). Congress would expand its reach
during the seventies with the passage of a number of environmental protection laws (Kamieniecki, OBrien & Clarke, 1986). Kamieniecki, OBrien & Clarke (1986) say that EPA was designed to serve
both Congress and the president, parts of the government often at odds, and has done neither well. The agency was not able to meet the objectives of acts passed during
the 1970s (Kamieniecki, OBrien & Clarke, 1986). Admittedly, EPA did make some changes, but it did not make the dramatic changes that Congress really desired (Kamieniecki, OBrien & Clarke,
