be seen as far reaching. To be effective communication needs to take place bi-directionally, not only in one direction. One way communication
may be result as frustration and misunderstanding which can not only delay recover, but hinder and aggravate a situation. When we talk of
communication it needs to be remembered this is not limited to verbal communication, non-verbal communication is also an inherent part of the way a patient will communicate. This is
especially true if there is a communication barrier such as language. Communication is made up of different components; including a communicator, or
sender, and a receiver or interpreter as well as a message. Effective communication only takes place when the interpreter or receiver understands the meaning the sender is transmitting, without any
misinterpretation. There are numerous aspects that may hinder communication and create a barrier. The environmental conditions may present one barrier; noise or activity may detract attention and hinder reception, leading
to miscommunication. For example, in a busy hospital where there is a high degree of activity patients may be distracted and not ear or pay attention to all that they
hear. There is also the potential for more personal distractions, for example emotions and pain may be a barrier to effective communication; preventing the interpreter understanding or the transmitter from
