The Progressives (social reformers) in their confrontation with the Capitalists played an important and vital role in formation of modern America.
The answer is true because Progressive impact was extensive in the early part of the twentieth century. The Progressives were
particularly instrumental in bringing about change in regard to issues like economic inequality, poor working conditions, and inequality between the races and the sexes; issues that were in play at
least in part because of the typical Capitalist status quo that drove the nation. There were numerous reasons for this status quo but our nations growing population coupled with
industrialization to present a situation that was ripe for Capitalist exploitation. Immigrants flooded the country and their arrival, and the high number of domestic births which had existed since
the latter 1800s facilitated greater and greater industrialization. Manpower was a prerequisite to industrialization and the United States was teaming with men and women eager and ready to work
on the factory assembly lines. The Progressive Movement evolved to meet the need of the working class for a unified voice and many positive changes came about as a
result. Those changes came to some at least represented a frontal assault on the fundamental underpinnings of capitalism itself. In reality, however, the Progressives were not challenging the
institution of capitalism itself but rather the injustices of the Depression Era workplace. While not ever injustice was fully remedied, gradual change continued up until the current day.
The Progressives then played an important and vital role in building the infrastructure around which modern America now revolves.
