greatest threats confronting our young people revolve around premarital sex. The age at which sexual activity is starting in our culture, however, is becoming progressively younger. It is
no longer uncommon, in fact, for girls as young as thirteen to be sexually active. Sexual activity, however, comes replete with a number of risks, not the lesser of
which is the contraction of sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy (Bennett et. al., 1999; Cohall, 2001). While teens are often vaguely familiar with the dangers of some of the
higher profile sexually transmitted diseases, they are largely unfamiliar with others which can have equally devastating impacts (Cohall, 2001). While there are other factors which influence promiscuity and with
encourage a child to either enter into a premarital sexual relationships or to abstain from such relationships, the influence of parental guidance on teen pregnancy cannot be overemphasized (Bennett et.
al., 1999; Whit, 1997). These early years to a great degree mold the way that child perceives and functions in his or her world and the pressure to engage
in sexual activity is a very big component of that world even from a very young age (Bennett et. al., 1999; Whit, 1997). Societal factors as a whole, however,
bear examination in regard to their impact on this phenomena. Not only must parents become more vigilant in educating their children and steering them in the right moral direction,
so too must provisions be put in place on a societal level as a whole to counteract the problems associated with sexual promiscuity among teenagers.
