Center and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001, America truly realized that it was not immune to terrorism. It overcame us that day and reminded us all of our
vulnerability. Not only was the devastation of the World Trade Center a personal tragedy for the many friends and relatives of the victims, but it represented an organizational tragedy
as well. Literally thousands of people made their way to work that morning, unaware that they would never return home again. As they worked they were attacked, in
the worst possible way imaginable. Clearly, in todays political environment, the necessity of addressing risk management is imperative. Organizations cannot
afford not to consider the possibility of terrorism and how that issue relates to their employees. More importantly, by addressing this issue prior to any unfortunate terrorist event, organizations
are able to mobilize into action and to produce plans that may serve to mitigate the effects of a terrorist event.
Globalization has been a significant force in the proliferation of terrorism in our world. People routinely cross borders in todays world and while this has served business well from
many perspectives, it has also served to heighten political and ideological disputes across borders as well. We no longer live our day-to-day lives within the realm of our immediate
communities, but instead are constantly reminded of how, because of technology and the proliferation of information, across the ocean can be nearly as close as across town. These are
the realities of our world, and personally we have done much to address our concerns. Individuals watch the news, are aware of security alerts, travel more wisely, etc.
