reached 693 million (Frangialli, 2002). The level of growth in terms of revenue, excluding the cost of airline tickets and domestic tourism have been growing by the equivalent of 11%

rise of eco-tourism we first need to define this. In general terms it is perceived as a form of tourism that has a neutral effect on the environment, whilst it
may not emancipate the environment, it may preserve or better it. It is due to this that the idea of mass tourism
is seen as a contradiction to ecotourism, masses of tourists create mess and pollution, their needs are inherently those that will destroy the environment, pollution from transport and even human
waste. This will also impact on the local cultures and sociality, changing the environment totally. It is an increasing awareness by tourists of these potential dangers that have to be
balanced with the needs of countries especially where there are developing countries. The solution has been the development of the eco-tourism. The focus of the definition needs to be
that of the environment and many tourists are becoming more mature in their needs and want to see the natural environment, not that which is manufactured by the tour operators.
Changes made may also impact on local economies and as a result change the social structures; absence of tourists may create economic hardship and the related social problems.
