Colombia) is Colombias largest and oldest guerrilla army (Bloomberg News, 2010). Established forty-five years ago, the group operates primarily throughout southeast Colombia and at the base of the
Andes mountains (Council on Foreign Relations, 2002). In 2002 it had a membership of approximately 18,000 (Council on Foreign Relations, 2002). FARC claims to represent the interests of
Colombias rural poor (Council on Foreign Relations, 2002). FARCE is intent on overthrowing the Colombian government (Bloomberg News, 2010). The group opposes "the privatization of natural resources, multinational
corporations, and rightist violence" (Council on Foreign Relations, 2002). They stand in opposition against Colombias wealthier class and vehemently resent American influence in their country (Council on Foreign Relations,
2002). Like all terrorist organizations, FARCE seeks to accomplish its goals through the use of violence. The group has been
linked to everything from the drug trade, to car bombs, land mines, and even a dirty bomb (Bloomberg News, 2010; The Economist, 2009a). Funded primarily by drug money, the
