the most important event in the Christian faith. Yet, it also seems that while it is such an important event it becomes less than important in celebrations and the religion
itself. One author notes that although Christians celebrate Easter, "the full meaning of the resurrection has often been undeveloped or diluted in Christian teaching and preaching" (Fowler, 2001). With the
importance of this event in mind the following paper compares and contrasts the Gospels of John and Mark as they pertain to the resurrection. The Resurrection in the
Gospels of John and Mark In first understanding the similarities and the differences in the two gospels it is perhaps important to understand something of the two men and their
gospels. One author indicates that Mark was a great friend and follower of Jesus but also that the gospel may not be illustrations of his own experiences. The author notes
that, "Although the book was written by Mark, the facts contained in it are thought to be the accounts of Peter during his ministry with Jesus" (All About Jesus Christ,
2009). While this does not mean, in any way, that what is written is not accurate but that it may well be written from the perspectives of another rather than
words that illustrate Marks personal experiences. In the words of another author, as it pertains to the Gospel of John it seems
that the present day gospel is likely the result of many different theological approaches throughout much of the ages (USCCB, 2009). The author further notes the following: "The Gospel according
to John is quite different in character from the three synoptic gospels. It is highly literary and symbolic. It does not follow the same order or reproduce the same stories
