restaurateurs should use a product that certainly hurts health, there is a good reason not to prohibit trans fats: taste. A problem with the situation is that many recipes call
for specific ingredients. The banning of trans fats will change eating as it is known in New York City. Lamp reports: "Restaurant owners, of course, are up in arms. They
claim banning trans fats would raise their costs and change the taste of some of their menu items." Starting on July 1, 2008, restaurants will not be able
to use trans fats in the preparation of their foods in New York City (Jones and Hellmich). The bill was voted into law in December of 2006 but
proprietors were given a year "to replace trans fats in baked goods and deep-fried desserts as it may take more time to find substitutes that achieve the same texture, says
health commissioner Thomas Frieden" (Jones and Hellmich). Indeed, chefs will be scrambling to figure out how to prepare foods that taste so good without the use of this unhealthy
substance. Another problem is that if trans fats are banned, is something else next? Rick Berman remarks: "I expect this opens the door to caffeine, sugar, salt, alcohol, whole milk
and any other ingredients these lunatics want to attack" (Jones and Hellmich). That is an excellent point. Where does the health frenzy stop? Everyone is going to die
