wolf in the wild? Some say that the wolf is the health care worker of the forest, but wolves can also cause a great deal of damage ("Council of
Europe Parliamentary assembly," 2004). Historically, wolves have been literally demonized. Wolves have an interesting history in Europe. Religious ideas suggest that the wolf was associated with the Devil and a
biblical metaphor showed Jesus as securing a flock from predators (Jones, 2002). The wolf was suddenly aligned with things such as violence and bestiality and many equated the appearance of
the wolf with a prophesy in Deuteronomy; the prediction suggested that a beast will come down to the Earth (Jones, 2002). In France, around 1600, a judge convicted people of
shape shifting and becoming werewolves (Jones, 2002). Of course, the idea that people could turn themselves into wolves is one thing, but another is what became of the actual wolf
as a result of these myths. Wolves were "eradicated from England by 1500" and by the middle of the 1800s, they were rare in Germany (Jones, 2002). Today, it is
believed that the wolf, or most any species, should be saved. Extinction is not a good thing. Sometimes, species are reintroduced to a locale, but at other times, a natural
repopulation results. Promberger & Schroder (1993 as cited in Haight & Travis, 2002) explains that due to natural repopulation, human tolerance and reintroduction, gray wolves are now seen in the
