was the officer who did the shooting that was attributable to a case of road rage ("Rampart Scandal Timeline," 2005). Because the shooting officer is white, and the officer who
was shot was black, this became a very controversial and highly publicized case ("Rampart Scandal Timeline," 2005). Lyga said that Gaines threatened him and the shooting was therefore self defense
("Rampart Scandal Timeline," 2005). Lyga said that he actually made this officer for a gang member ("Rampart Scandal Timeline," 2005). However, it would be learned that Gaines was involved in
road rage problems in the past and he had threatened drivers with a gun ("Rampart Scandal Timeline," 2005). When all the problems were uncovered, it would turn out to be
a serious scandal involving much of the LAPD. During the investigation, it was learned that there had been other connections associated with Gaines and possible corruption ("Rampart Scandal Timeline," 2005).
There had been an association between Gaines and Death Row Records for example ("Rampart Scandal Timeline," 2005). Lyga would be exonerated a year after the shooting due to the information
