his early life (2002). Plato claims that Socrates had devoted his last 30 years to changing the ideas of the Athenians in respect to moral matters (2002). The Socratic
method is well known and his technique is used in law today; it had been created to ask for definitions of morally significant concepts like piety and justice, as
well as to elicit contradictions from responses in order to expose the ignorance of the responder as well as to motivate deeper inquiry (2002). Socrates probably held doctrines that human
excellence is a sort of knowledge and so, it is also thought that all wrongdoing is based on ignorance (2002). He believed that no one really desired bad things and
it is worse to do injustice than to suffer from injustice (2002). He himself had been tried on charges of impiety and corruption of youth by by those who wanted
to restore democracy to Athens (2002). He had been found guilty and was put to death with the use of hemlock (2002). His personality, in addition to his doctrines, have
been immortalized in Platos dialogues and his influence on Western philosophy has been very significant (2002). Socrates repeated the formula: "All things in the sky and below the earth,
who makes the worse argument the stronger " (cited in Ross, 2000, p. PG). This is a formula that Socrates continued to integrate, and is something that originated with the
Sophists, who claimed to be teaching "virtue" but ended up teaching rhetoric and persuasion (Ross, 2000). Socrates suggested that eliminating ignorance was the first step in leading men to virtue
