It would later be shown that Russian intelligence services would recruit "ideologically motivated" spies (2004). The history of the emergence of British intelligence in the form of MI6 and MI5 have become cause for concern. Actually, the MI5 is called The Security Service and the MI6 is known as The Secret Intelligence Service ("British Intelligence," 2003). MI6 is responsible for information gathering and covert operations with foreign intelligence sources (2003). The operations emerged in part to oppose the Soviet forces during the Cold War. This is true even though the organization was begun much earlier. It seemed to gain strength during the cold war. Some of the major intelligence operations of MI6, which were conducted against the Soviet union during this period, were successful but others had failed. Of course, it is not easy to discern where things went awry. To evaluate what occurred at that time, one would have to draw on a variety of sources as it seems that much information is kept hidden. Still, stories have emerged regarding the legendary MI6. One example of problems within MI6 come from official reports which conclude that two of its MI6 officers had actually been involved with the passing of fake documentation to the Foreign Office (Ramsay, 2004). Other forgeries had also been discovered (2004). Yet, again, it is hard to discern what went wrong when there had been corruption in the midst of the MI6. There have further been many allegations regarding practices of the MI6, one reminiscent of spy films where governments conspire and engage in illegal activity.
