taken down by the United States. There is in fact a bad taste in the mouths of many Americas because Germany had gotten so out of control. The rise of
the Nazi party is an unprecedented action as it allowed the mass annihilation of a people. Much later, when the wall fell and East and West Germany had been
united, there was a new sense of freedom. One can see that the history of Germany contains many dramatic events. The reunification of Germany officially took place in 1990.
German national enthusiasm was at an all time high when reunification was in the air, particularly during the first weeks after the opening of the Berlin Wall (Stent). The German
people began to realize just what was at stake and the full implications of the collapse of communism (Stent). However, by October 3, 1990, the formal reunification date which held
parties and the festivities described, problems began to surface (Stent). The harsh economic realities and mounting social costs of the merger were beginning to create a more sober atmosphere
across all of this newly revamped Germany (Stent). Economic hardships were the major problem. It is difficult to create a democracy from the shreds of communism. At the same time,
this change suggests a new Germany. Certainly, Germany is different from what it was at the turn of the twentieth century or during W.W.II or in 1990 for that matter.
