What has come to light is the fact that the very act of terrorism requires significant amounts of money to undertake and unless the terrorists are independently wealthy, they must raise that money by any means they can. The financially alluring aspects of drug trafficking is, indeed, a natural path for terrorists to take in order to secure their monetary needs, providing them with a fast and extremely lucrative method for carrying out their terrorist plots. finance their illegal acts. Drug trafficking comes at the top of this list of illegal money raising activities, followed by robbery, extortion, kidnapping, blackmailing and arms smuggling" (Anonymous, 2002).
Termed "narco-terrorism" (Anonymous, 2002), the coupling of drug trafficking and terrorism has become the most efficient means by which terrorists can achieve their goal. This newfangled approach to
even greater destruction has been developing over the past several decades, however, it has certainly reached its pinnacle by the way that narcotic smugglers and terrorist organizations have created such
an impenetrable alliance, the likes of which such organizations as the UN Convention Against Illicit Traffic In Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances have come to officially recognize this correlation.
