something that has crept into society quite gradually. Today, people are used to getting cash from machines. When ATMs were first introduced people were afraid to trust machines to count
their money. Today, it is part of daily life. Similarly, as airplanes would reach various stages of technical change, pilots would have to get used to the transition. In many
ways, getting used to something that makes life easier seems to be an absurd notion, but clearly, there are drawbacks to modernization. For instance, when airbags were introduced in cars,
there would come the worry of damage that the airbags could do. Throughout the years, problems from modernization would be ameliorated, but certainly the idea of automation affects people and
sometimes in detrimental ways. In respect to flying, pilots and others who work in the cockpit are affected by automation. Pilots are well trained professionals who must not only
possess excellent vision, and have a great deal of training under their belts, but also must be able to make decisions at a moments notice. Pilots are supposed to be
able to cope with changes in weather conditions as well as to make sure that the plane is safe for passengers. Recent fears since 9/11 has changed the way that
flight is viewed, but clearly, the nuts and bolts of flying have not changed. In an increasingly automated world, and one that changes daily in different ways, how has technology
