happened that cannot be attributable to Hitler alone, though he had a significant role. Still, it took many people to conspire to kill those in the minority. They killed Jews
for the most part, but others were included in the plan. The idea was to exterminate anyone who would not be material for the new society they would create, but
this idea came about gradually. Those in charge wanted to form a master race. Germany was to be the Aryan nation. Though various motives did perhaps exist, it is hard
to fathom anything so horrific that can stem from anything else but prejudice and hate. A student adds that "historically, humans have the tendency to be fearful of cultures and
religions that are different from their own." Seemingly, this fear, with its roots centuries earlier, turned deadly. The fact that there was a campaign against Jewish literature during the Holocaust
is telling. Schoenberner (2004) explains that libraries were "cleansed" of Jewish authors and then, the Nazis would simply blame Jews for everything. This is important. It suggests that Jews were
victims of a campaign based solely on prejudice. Yet, it is not just during the World Wars that Jews have been subject to this type of treatment. While the Holocaust
is a significant marker, there have been several points in history where Jews were not properly treated. Prior to the fourteenth century Jewish Merchants were burned alive by Catholics
who moved into Cologne for example ("Persecution of the Jews," 2006). People even blamed the Plague on Jews ("Persecution of the Jews," 2006). Jews have been persecuted since the start
