The Chinese people have suffered tremendously for decades at the hands of a government that cared only about its own interest and not basic human rights.
The Chinese enjoy none of the basic rights that we enjoy in the free world. There is no freedom of speech, freedom of religion, nor freedom from unfair
persecution. The Chinese people do not have a voice in their government. They are ruled with an iron thumb by a one-party Communist system. This party was
put in place in 1978 in the hope that it would be instrumental in improving the quality of life in China. Unfortunately, that hope withered and died on the
vine. The concept of political liberalization was a common one in China in the 1980s. The government, on outward appearance at least,
seemed to be making at least a small degree of progress during this time period. A Constitution had been implemented in 1982, in fact, in fact that provided
for certain freedoms for the people. These freedoms included the freedom of speech, the freedom of the press, and the freedom of assembly, association, procession, and demonstration! In
reality these assurances turned out to be the equivalent of singing into the wind. Day to day life for most Chinese only continued to worsen.
