any good reason for not wearing a seatbelt. In fact, the reasons given for not wearing them seem to stem from unreasonable fears, or a misunderstanding of the dynamics of
an automobile crash. Among the reasons offered for not using the belt is that its "a hassle," or its uncomfortable, or people just forget (Not wearing seat belts is a
deadly decision). Sometimes people argue that theyre afraid of being trapped in a burning vehicle or held underwater; or they actually believe their chances of survival are better if theyre
thrown from the car (How wearing seat belts can save you money, time and your life-hereafter "How wearing belts saves lives"). Many sources also indicate that people resist wearing seat
belts because they dont feel that legislators should dictate personal behavior; they find it a violation of their rights. Young people in particular dont wear seat belts, perhaps because teens
have a terrifying illusion that they are immortal, a notion that quickly breaks down when theyre injured or killed. A study on teen drivers found that "59 percent of teens
always buckled up in the driver seat but only 42 percent always wore seat belts as passengers. However, only 38 percent of all teens in the study reported always buckling
up as both drivers and passengers" (Study: Only 42% of teen passengers report wearing seat belts, 2008-hereafter "Study, 2008"). This particular demographic group would seem to be the one most
in need of education on reasons for wearing seatbelts. The Department of Transportation tells what happens during an accident, and a refresher course (crash course? Sorry) in physics helps
