On first comparison Christianity and Islam would appear to be as different at night and day. On closer examination, however, numerous similarities are revealed between the two religions.
The purpose of this paper is to point out these similarities. At the same time, however, it must be explained that while there are many similarities between the two
religions, Islam in fact even recognized Christianity, Christian cannot recognize Islam. The first precept of Christianity, in fact, is that there shall be no other God and Allah constitutes
another God. Despite the insistence of Muslims the world over that Christians should recognize Islam, such cannot be the case either now or in the future.
Christianity holds many beliefs about the inherent deficiencies of mankind. It provides structure through which these inadequacies can be overcome and through which man can
find salvation through the acceptance of Christ. Islam agrees on these inadequacies of mankind but the religion is forever distinct from Christianity. A Christian, in fact, simply cannot
accept Islam for to do so would be to violate the teachings of Christianity. Despite the inability to accept this religion, however, given the current state of world affairs
it is imperative that we gain a better understanding of it. A number of writers have attempted to approach Islam from
a Western perspective. One particularly interesting account is "In Search of Muhammad" by Clinton Bennett. Bennett approaches Islam and Muhammad both honestly and objectively. By doing so
he reveals several facts which are of interest to Christians the world over. What we find, however, is a religion and a Muhammad about which only so much is
