who is truly, and almost universally, admired. He was intelligent, witty, fond of women, well-traveled, curious, an inventor and scientist. He was also our first Postmaster, and an international traveler
as at home in the court of France as he was in the colonial statehouses. This paper looks at the problems he faced as well as the opportunities he seized,
and how these actions shaped his life. Discussion Ben Franklin was born January 17, 1706 in Boston, the tenth son of Josiah Franklin and Abiah Folger, who was Josiah Franklins
second wife ("A Quick Biography of Benjamin Franklin," hereafter "Quick Biography"). Although his father intended him for the clergy, he couldnt afford to send Benjamin to the years of schooling
it would take to become a clergyman, so instead he apprenticed Benjamin to his brother James, a printer ("Quick Biography"). And here is the first of Franklins challenges: Benjamin wanted
