is what they learn. Bombarded with advertising and orders from work and the government, people become much like zombies and they are unhappy. Perhaps they do not why they harbor
a sense of discontent, but something does not feel right. In the Adbusters.com Manifesto, there is an idea that people are not happy and they need work and life balance
("Human," 2005). One idea, for example, is to ban advertising to children ("Human," 2005). It is a reasonable idea. After all, children are inundated with toy commercials and are essentially
brainwashed. Yet, are human begins so malleable that they need such government interference? Are the libertarians right in that people should decide for themselves what they are to do, or
is there a sense that people are being manipulated and brainwashed all of the time? Orwell (2005) makes the following observation in an essay: "It was perfectly clear
to me what I ought to do. I ought to walk up to within, say, twenty-five yards of the elephant and test his behavior. If he charged, I could
shoot; if he took no notice of me, it would be safe to leave him until the mahout came back." Here, Orwell talks about making a decision based upon what
another being does first. Rather than take the bull by the horns so to speak, he suggests that one watch and wait and see what other people do. In some
way that is a metaphor for how people live. In society, people tend to be obedient and that is the preferred way. In fact, in school systems around the nation
