have become an indispensable and valued part of our lives. Cell pones are used the world over but in the more technologically advanced countries they are often regarded as
a necessity, as something that you never leave home without. Because of their constant presence they introduce a number of thoughts regarding their appropriate place in our lives that
never would have been even considered before. Many of these considerations arise in the academic environment where cell phones are not just a nicety but as an important
tool. The impact this tool has on our lives, however, varies in accordance with how we choose to use it. These choices can be both bad and good.
Cell phones keep us connected on both a personal and professional level. We can use them to access critical information with just the pushing of a few buttons.
The increasing usage of cell phones in the academic environment in particular, however, increase the probability of us and others being distracted from our work and, yes, they even
increase the means through which unscrupulous students have to cheat. The intent of this paper is to explore both the positive and the negative sides of cell phone use
in the academic environment and to present suggestions to bring those problems that do exist under control.
