see how sociological concepts apply in evaluating poverty in a general sense. Slide# 2: Poverty is a problem that exists throughout the world for which there are complex
causes. * Wilson (1987) claims that while the situation is complex, certain variables such as shifts in the economy, migration, population changes and class transformation have each contributed to what
is the status quo. Many theorists note that there are a number of reasons why there is poverty in the world. Wilson for example includes things such as the
economy and population variances as well as migration patterns. These are all certainly relevant and do suggest that there are many causes of poverty. Later, unemployment rates as well as
statistics related to poverty specifically will be discussed. They provide only a glimpse into the problem. Slide #3: Is There Poverty in Santa Rosa County? * Santa Rosa
9.6% (2004) ("Santa Rosa County," 2008). * Florida 11.9%(2004) ("Santa Rosa County," 2008).
* There is less poverty in Santa Rosa County than in Florida overall. * Yet, close to one tenth of the people in this county live in poverty.
Santa Rosa does see poverty. Even though this is a well to do community, there are pockets of poverty. However, Santa Rosa contains slightly less poverty than Florida as
