weak, and fails to prosecute hardened criminals, it focuses on the powerless and gets its revenge in that way. By prosecuting children as adults, and college students who dabble in
drugs, the criminal justice system appears stronger than ever, but the reality is that the system ruins the chances of juveniles by effectively "throwing them away." The system is broken
and needs to be fixed. Perhaps there is no better example of this than the situation of Alex and Derek King, two young boys who killed their father at
the behest of a child molester. Their home situation was dismal as their mother was a stripper who had little to do with them. They lived with their father who
was admittedly not the best parent in the world, but at the urgency of a man who befriended them, brainwashed them, sexually abused at least one, and purportedly got them
to kill their father, the boys were punished further by being found guilty of murder. The miscreant who abused them, and allegedly planned the event, was not convicted of murder.
There was not enough evidence to convict him. Although jurors found the young boys guilty, a judge did overturn the verdicts. This is unusual. All too often children are led
through a troubled system that simply does not know how to treat young offenders. II. Juvenile Delinquency in America What causes juvenile delinquency? The answer
is by no means simple. Sometimes it seems that delinquents come from poor socioeconomic backgrounds, but that does not explain how rich kids end up dead with needles in their
