highest ratings during prime time. They come up with new programming in the form of situation comedy or drama. They air the controversial talk show hosts who appear as people
are going to sleep and they broadcast the news of the day starting promptly at 6:30 PM Eastern Standard Time. The problem is not that they are making money. After
all, they are providing jobs to many people and they also are responsible for providing news coverage. Yet, it is the latter point that is the problem. Are the major
networks providing good coverage or are they caving to government or to their sponsors? Many contend that broadcasters are merely catering to their advertisers because that is where the money
is. To some extent, this is true. A recent news article suggests that Bill Moyers and others have decided to become vocal about the problem with broadcasting ("Bill Moyers: "Big
Media is Ravenous," 2007). They contend that there are fewer independent sources today than ever before ("Bill Moyers: "Big Media is Ravenous," 2007). What does this mean? It seems to
imply that news broadcasts are tainted by what sponsors want in addition to what the government wants. They also say that even networks like NPR and PBS are under attack
as there is political pressure for them to be less critical ("Bill Moyers: "Big Media is Ravenous," 2007). On one hand, it is easy to see why government does not
want independent American sources criticizing government moves regarding the war. The war must make America look good and media should not have a hand in putting the troops in danger.
On the other hand, not reporting bad news regarding the war keeps the public unaware of the truth about current events. Some argue that this is why the war has
