more frightening. They involve a direct victim as opposed to a victim who only may be peripherally involved. In other words, even "victimless" crimes are thought to have victims. An
example is that drug use is supposedly a victimless crime, but each and every year, heroin takes many live and destroys families. Still, predatory crimes always harm another human being.
Different contexts of predatory crime may be preventable, but by and large, some happen at random or in instances where preventable measures do not help. It is also true that
prevention is simply impossible in many cases. Still, sanctions and attitudes can make future crimes less likely. Robbery is, again, a predatory crime. It is something that is defined by
the state, which generally is equated with theft of property or money "through the offenders use of physical force or fear against a victim" ("Robbery," 2005). Whenever a deadly weapon
is used, such as a gun, the robbery may be viewed as either aggravated or armed ("Robbery," 2005). Robbery is not the same thing as burglary, as robbery generally requisites
the presence of a victim who becomes injured during the event, or is threatened ("Robbery," 2005). Robbery may be prevented in a myriad of ways. For example, someone might
become "street wise" and make sure their pocketbook is held tightly. They can continually be aware of surroundings and look behind them at all times. This awareness is sometimes enough
to deter a criminal from victimizing a mark. Other suggestions are to be compliant once a robbery has begun to avoid injury. That suggestion is refuted by some. Snyder
