between Russia and the United States. It is a tense and frightening film about choices and destruction. One of the characters in this film is the President of the United
States, played by Henry Fonda. The following paper examines how the President is portrayed in this particular film. Fail Safe The President of the United States in this film
is generally presented as a very powerful man, as well as a noble and intelligent man. The story begins when things start to go wrong with computer malfunctions. The
tension builds as the President, and those around him, have to decide what to do. They must try to stop a group of planes who believe they have been ordered
to bomb the Soviet Union. As we can see, there is a tension that builds, and in this tension we truly gain a powerful look at a fictional President.
He is faced with numerous decisions that only a President could face. And, in all honesty is just the sort of President we wish we had if something this dangerous
came into reality. What makes him a powerful president, first off, is the fact that he is portrayed as a very strong and noble man, but he is not a
man who feels he must do everything himself. He is seeking the advice of others, and balancing that advice with perhaps gut feelings. He is not, therefore, simply going by
the book, but looking at many options. In addition he does not let his fear or emotion necessarily get the better of him. In many cases the real President
may well become too stressed or too angry and make the wrong choices. This President, though under considerable stress, never really gives in to emotional reactions where the safety of
