There is, in fact, considerable evidence to support this contention. Most of the strength that can be attributed to political parties lies in their ability to spread their message to the masses. Since the 1980s the manner in which this has been accomplished has shifted more and more towards aggressive advertising campaigns and to the use of the Internet as a tool for disseminating information. At the same time, the money that is invested in achieving this goal has increased almost exponentially! Party infrastructure has improved as well. All of these factors combine to make political parties much stronger entities than they have been in the past. Political parties are important from a number of perspectives. With the emergence of the candidate-centered campaign has come substantial increases in campaign cost and the consequent problem of financing those costs. Money, after all, is an extremely important determinant in putting the face of a respective candidate before the voting public. Political parties are the primary mechanisms of fund generation. This coupled with the ever-increasing divide between the major political parties has created a campaign scenario which is vastly different from those experienced throughout our history. Money coupled with power often translates into political victory.
