British rule in India during the nineteenth century resulted in a variety of impacts. Some of these
impacts were good and some were bad. Interestingly, the impacts of British rule in India were not limited to India herself but extended to parts of the rest of
the world as well. The British presence in India extends, of course, well before the nineteenth century. Indeed, it was in the
seventeenth century that the British initiated their presence there. This earlier time, however, was not a time of crown rule over the country. Instead it was dominated by
the British East India Company. That company actually served as the impetus for eventual British rule. When the people of India revolted against what they considered unfair practices
by the East India Company the Crown stepped in to take over the administration of the country. Largely because of the British presence
there, India began a time of radical evolution in the nineteenth century. This was a time of great technological change in particular. Railways were built crisscrossing the country
as were telegraph lines. This meant that information could cross the country in mere minutes. It also meant that people and goods could be quickly and efficiently transported
