geographic area. Less attention is paid to quality with the emphasis on convenience. To some extent, McDonalds plays a role in this. Today, there is a McDonalds every few miles
on highways across America. People like the sameness that is offered at each stop. The food is a known entity. McDonalds restaurants are no longer confined to America. They are
found all over the world. To a great extent, McDonalds gives one insight into the globalization of popular culture. McDonalds is just one entity but it is one that
has expanded throughout the world. Music and fashion are other things that seem to have become global, but such trends are disturbing to people who live in the third world.
What are the benefits of the globalization of popular culture? What are the liabilities? Critics contend that the spread of popular culture, or as some say--the McDonaldization or McDomination--of the
world is detrimental to the developing countries that have a hard time retaining their own culture. They say that their cultural heritage is compromised as stores break ground and spread
