The duality of fatherhood is no different from the duality found in anyone else who has walked decades of miles along the circuitous path of life. Moreover, few
would argue that most of us begin the journey in a linear fashion - certain about point "A" while setting our optimistic sites on the reality of point "B".
However, it is not until we are confronted by the irreconcilable that we become engulfed in the confounding shades of gray-- that seem intent on making -- those of us
who have been seasoned by life, much less consistent. When faced with these realities the image of the positive/ negative paternal figure seems not only more likely, but inevitable.

Costner vehicle A Perfect World Butch is a likable but psychologically scarred escaped felon on the run in 1960s Texas. He has taken along seven-year-old, Phillip as a hostage and
