tends to bring it back up. Also, Chinas control policies that are deemed inhumane has slowed population growth. Although many people like the idea of bringing babies into the world,
increases in population can lead to many problems. In fact, population stresses can be very serious, putting pressure on various things such as energy, food, forests, health, fisheries and water
(Cleveland, 2003). They also accentuate problems as it respects poverty, aging, and the acceleration and migration of people to the cities as well as around the world (Eberstadt, 1998). Additionally,
trends that point to a decline also affect a redistribution of world population (1998). In 1995, for example, the ratio that existed between the population of "less developed" and regions
considered to be "more developed" was approximately four to one but it is thought that by 2050, the same figure will be seven to one (1998). It is also thought
that population would shift a great deal; in 1995, for instance, the estimated populations of Europe and Africa had been the same (1998). It is believed that by 2050, Africans
will outnumber the Europeans (1998). Such shifts are expected for a variety of reasons. While Western European populations are quite advanced, use birth control, have not lost a lot of
people to AIDS and so forth, the shift that is predicted would render slower growth. While that slowdown should occur in the future, it should also be
emphasized that this is not the case today. European countries are densely populated ("Europes," 1991). Also, it had been noted that the population in Europe equals that of Africa.
The foreign born population of Europe is not large. In France for example, it is 7% but also, in both Britain and France, there is only an entry of .1%
