The media can have a direct impact on our understanding of the science of life.
Consider, for example, what the general public knows about the scientific method that researchers use to explore critical questions relating to life. The general public doesnt typically turn
to the professional research for an explanation. Instead, they turn to the mass media. In many cases they are awarded with factual and helpful information.
The mass media is, in fact, replete with articles explaining life from a scientific perspective. Even a few television programs have touched on the topic.
One of the most helpful in illuminating exactly what the scientific method is is the hit television program "Myth Busters" (Minor 60). Hosts Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage
walk through the scientific method in finding answers to some of lifes most interesting questions. They have blown a lot of things up but they have also explored topics
involving body physiology. The question of whether a sleeping person will wet the bed if you dip their hand in water is an excellent example (Minor 60).
