had to make many sacrifices. The plot for this soap opera goes back to well before the wedding day. First, when the couple were first engaged, she knew she would need money to fund the wedding so pawned the engagement ring and wore cubic zirconia, unbeknownst to Carl. As a result, the wedding ring did not match exactly and during the wedding ceremony, her sister-in-law Karen, made mention of that. Charlotte was afraid that Carl would find out that she was poor. Charlotte would pretend to have money but the only person in her family who had been rich was her stepmother. During the engagement period, Charlotte introduced her stepmother and claimed she was her real mother. Charlottes real mother was a prostitute and lived quietly in the next town. Charlotte tried to hide her family but her godmother Celia suddenly became interested in Charlottes new conquest. Upon the engagement, Celia called Charlotte and said: "I understand that you have become engaged to Carl Cavanaugh. Does he know that your mother is a hooker?" Charlotte begged Celia not to tell anyone. Celia agreed but said that she would keep the secret only under one condition, and that is if she would be a bridesmaid. Charlotte agreed. Charlotte realized that pulling off the wedding under the pretense would not be easy. She allowed Celia to not only be in the wedding but she introduced her to her in-laws and claimed she was a cousin. When it came time to fit the wedding dress and the bridesmaids dresses, her sister-in-law Karen came along as she was in the wedding party too.
