complex history. Specifically in the cases of France and Britain there have been changes throughout the years to these systems, allowing these countries to arrive at where they are
today politically. It could be argued that their systems are essentially the same, with the exception of a few minor details, but I believe these details to be more
than minor. Therefore, I would argue that the political systems of France and Britain are quite different, despite some apparent similarities. The ways these governments function and manifest
themselves are inherently different, and therefore must be understood not to be essentially he same, but each a different political system altogether.
Britain has been referred to by many as one of the most stable governments on Earth (The British Government, 2003). This government is a parliamentary democracy and a
constitutional democracy (The British Government, 2003). This system works like a true democracy, and therefore the real power lies with the voting public, and not with the monarch (The
British Government, 2003). France on the other hand is a democracy, and the current government is called the Fifth Republic (The British Government, 2003). The reason for this
is that four other types of republican systems preceded it (The British Government, 2003). French democracy is the result of the French Revolution in 1792 (The British Government, 2003).
However, it is important to note that since the French Revolution there have been some important changes to the French
government (French Government, 2003). This is important because it is many of these changes which will highlight the essential differences between the political systems of Britain and France (French
