quite different than other law enforcement agencies around the world. We envision that the rights of American citizens are, more often than not, protected far more by the law enforcement
in the nation. However, other nations also have such powerful restrictions, ensuring the rights of citizens. And, in addition, the law enforcement agencies of the United States are not always
ideal in terms of protecting people, or addressing issues in a truly moral or noble manner. While these are only a couple of issues that surround the institution of law
enforcement, they are issues that help bring to mind the complexity of law enforcement in any given nation. The following paper discusses and compares law enforcement in the United States
and France. Police: The United States and France In best understanding the similarities and conditions of policing in the United States and France we first look at a
couple of articles which discuss particular situations concerning crime that relates to both nations. The first article discusses the increased use of firearms in France. Macko (2004) states, "The fear
that some French cities and suburbs are sinking into U.S.-style urban violence has French authorities debating about whether or not they should increase police firepower. It is not unusual for
some police patrols in some high-rise suburbs of major French cities to come under attack by a hail of stones from disgruntled youths." However, "More alarming is the seen increased
use of guns, which are strictly controlled in the country" (Macko, 2004). And, interestingly enough, it does note seem as though the people of France are as fearful of the
