socialization and experience what makes the personality? Clearly, there does seem to be a certain type of police personality as people can point out individuals who "think like cops" or
appear to be police-like. They can just tell. In part, the controversy goes to which came first: the chicken or the egg? In other words, does the individual enter law
enforcement because they have a certain personality, or is their personality something that is affected by police work to muster that cop persona? Does the job mold the policeman or
is someone just police officer material? In evaluating both points of view, it seems that the most logical conclusion is that there is something called a police personality that involves
a variety of factors. Just as some people choose to become accountants or doctors or lawyers, people are drawn to things that interest them, but largely, they are good at
something due to their natural tendencies or talents. People know instinctively which subjects they will be best at. They enjoy them. Someone who is a genius at math will seek
a profession where numbers are used and someone who is good with his hands may vie to become a surgeon or a mechanic. The choice will likely be related to
intellect, but the talent is there. Hennessy points to anecdotal evidence that this is the case by noting that ministers tend to be warm and sympathetic and accountants pay
attention to details and facts (13). Each personality type is drawn to one or more occupations. The type of person who would become an entertainer will be a very different
type than someone who would become a librarian. One is extroverted and the other is likely introverted. For police work, certain traits are desirable. For example, many law enforcement agents
