Poe was born on January 19, 1809 (Misery is Manifold). His parents were both actors but shortly after he was born,
his father abandoned his mother and the whole family (Misery is Manifold). Then, when Poe was just two years old, his mother died which left him an orphan (Misery
is Manifold). He was to be adopted by John and Frances Allen who moved to England shortly after Poes adoption and stayed there until 1820 (Misery is Manifold).
Poe grew up and eventually fell in love with a woman named Sarah Elmira Royster, but a relationship with her was not to be (Misery is Manifold). She
was forced by her family to marry another man (Misery is Manifold). Poe enlisted in the army and became a Regimental Sargeant Major before being discharged just less than one
year later (Misery is Manifold). This was the same year in which his first book of poems was published (Misery is Manifold). This book was called Tamerlane and
Other Poems, and the poem Dreams, which was referenced above, is contained in this book (Misery is Manifold). His second book of poems was published in 1929, and was
entitled, "Al Aaraaf, Tamerlans, and Minor Poems" (Misery is Manifold). Poe went on to attend West Point Academy as a cadet, but a shortage of money forced him
