the founding of the new land that is the United States of America. Living in the 17th century Anne was a woman who represented her people, these brave new people
in a new and wild land. She was a woman of strong religious beliefs, yet also a very simple woman as a mother and a wife. Her poetry allows the
reader to see back in time, to understand something of the simple history of a people, the people who founded this nation. The Poetry of Anne Bradstreet Anne
was born in 1612 in England and "She married Simon Bradstreet at the age of sixteen" (Anne Bradstreet: The First American Poetess). In the year 1635 she came to Ipswich
where she lived for up to nine years when she moved on to Andover (Anne Bradstreet: The First American Poetess). In essence, she is well considered one of the early
settlers to the Massachusetts Bay Colony (Bradstreet, Anne Dudley (1612?-1672)). Anne was even considered, not only the first female poet, but one of
the first poets in general in the United States (Bradstreet, Anne Dudley (1612?-1672)). One author notes that one of her most popular works was a collection of poems that dealt
with subjects such as science, as well as religion and morality (Bradstreet, Anne Dudley (1612?-1672)). "However, her best poems describe home life in colonial New England" (Bradstreet, Anne Dudley (1612?-1672)).
