In some ways this may seem to be a contradiction but in truth it is not for although the world may be filled with poets and mystics, while all people are essentially poets in one sense or another, the world requires a new level, a new enlightenment that can only come through new vision that is embodied in the poet. The following paper examines this perspective. The Poet by Ralph Waldo Emerson When Emerson speaks of the poets and mystics he essentially states, "The people fancy they hate poetry, and they are all poets and mystics!" (Emerson). This is an important quotation for in one respect it can be seen as satirical, not serious, and it can be seen as a clear indication that people do not know they are poets in a symbolic manner. In relationship to the notion that it is satirical one notes that Emerson constantly speaks of how people utilize symbols in their daily life, are supporters of poetic symbolism, and how they are also people who feel they are powerful, symbolic of power, and they are anything but true visionary poets or mystics. From the other perspective all people are poets through their jobs, their use of symbols, their subconscious adherence to anything symbolic and somehow spiritually meaningful. But, in many respects they are unaware of this. They all play a part and are all part of the greater poetry of life.
