principal had balked at her proposal at the beginning of the year to try a cooperative learning environment. They had gotten used to the 30-year-old system of ability grouping and
did not want the children "mixed together" like a casserole. But Joann had pushed for a one year trial and gotten her way. Now, in the last month
of the year the classroom had been so successful that the principal had decided to use cooperative learning school wide next year. Joann had been asked to train the individual
teachers during the summer and she proudly accepted the request. She glanced once more around the classroom before announcing it was time to clean up and get ready to go
home. Cooperative learning had raised her class average by an entire grade level and she was happy to have been a part of it. She knew it worked and was
