planet that "is veiled by thick swirling cloud cover" (Venus Introduction, 2004). The following paper examines some of the most basic information we have as it relates to Venus.
Venus The planet Venus is a planet that is incredibly close to the size, mass, density, and volume as the planet Earth and as such is often referred to as
Earths sister planet. "Both formed about the same time and condensed out of the same nebula. However, during the last few years scientists have found that the kinship ends here"
for "Venus is very different from the Earth" (Venus Introduction, 2004). Venus has no oceans and it "is surrounded by a heavy atmosphere composed mainly of carbon dioxide with virtually
no water vapor. Its clouds are composed of sulfuric acid droplets" and on the surface of Venus "the atmospheric pressure is 92 times that of the Earths at sea-level" (Venus
Introduction, 2004). Venus has a temperature of approximately 482 degrees Celsius. "This high temperature is primarily due to a runaway greenhouse effect caused by the heavy atmosphere of carbon
dioxide. Sunlight passes through the atmosphere to heat the surface of the planet" and the "Heat is radiated out, but is trapped by the dense atmosphere and not allowed to
escape into space. This makes Venus hotter than Mercury" (Venus Introduction, 2004). This greenhouse affect on Venus is a subject of some research and perhaps controversy. One author notes,
