One of the most prominent places where fear and intolerance comprise the vast majority of attitudes towards AIDS, thereby precluding the ability to educate, is within the
workplace. Even though the general public is well-educated by now as to the safety issues associated with contact to an AIDS patient, there still remains unfounded apprehension when it
comes to working within the same environment as those with AIDS. Clearly, the HIV/AIDS population faces considerably more challenges than other members of society do, in that they have
to struggle just to achieve a modicum of acceptance. Their societal counterparts, who are frequently ignorant to deeper issues surrounding the disease, often unknowingly make them feel inadequate and
worthless when it comes their life choices. Inasmuch as the workplace is often a hotbed for judgmental attitudes, AIDS patients have experienced undue stress that is directly related to
workplace attitudes. According to Paul et al, "the problem of AIDS in the workplace is considered as a distressing and expensive dilemma. Employers have to deal with the
physiological regression manifested by the employee affected with AIDS, and the other employees indifference to the latter."1 Homophobia and the absence of education
